The link below will take you to a section of my song (I looped 2 sections back to back total abot 20 seconds). I added acoustic guitar, but one chord sounds out of whack and I can't figure out the proper chord (I'm not a real guitar player). The sequence goes...F,Am,?,G Then F,C,Em,G

I can't figure out the ?. As you can hear in the piece..I played G but it sounds out of place. I think G is in the root. Have at it guitar experts

Personally, I don't really think that chord sounds wrong along with everything else that's going on. Perhaps you might still play a G chord but a different voicing? Someone with a better ear for this type of music might be able to help you out a little more.

G9... but G-Maj is fine. If you want a G9 though, do it on the four highest strings instead of aiming for a bar chord with a low G root. Do it as (low side)D, B, D, A (hi side). That one is: XXo435 or this way: XX5435 That one sounds more obviously rooted with a G, but it's more fingers. Or, you can just push down the 5th fret of the highest string and play the next two open with the three lowest strings muted. That one is: XXXoo5 and XX5xo5 is good too for cutting down on that open string ring out.

Thanks. I'll try the Em/G. Worst case I can strum the middle strings without hitting the high "E" which will blend that downbeat a bit better.

I concur with not hearing anything wrong sticking out of the tune. As stated above, try some different voicings, but to me, it sounds just fine. Nothing out of place. Good luck with the tune.

I would definitely go with Em/G...

Also G9 is dominant 7th chord. G9 sounds veeery different from G(add9) which is the chord suggested.

- G9 has G B D F(!) A

- G(add9) has G B D A

G add 9 is the real name. It's been 15 years since I looked at the book for chord references. The whole point is: stick an A in the G, and it sets the stage for the next line's A played on the keyboard without being too much. It's the way to do something besides G, but regular G works.
