Take a listen to this mix, just wondering if the snare is a little loud, there is nothing on the 2 buss other than slight limiting on the very top peaks, we're trying to get this mix ready for mastering

The snare itself is good and "in tune" with rest of band, but vocal is "behind" everybody...lacks a lot of important frequencies, I´m not sure if it will "shine"
even after the mastering (well, with the right monitoring, excellent condictions, who knows).

I think the ME can do a good job in the bass/drums section (bass lacks somenthing around 105 hz, but seems not difficult to corretc (not necessarily need a re-mix) and the rest of things sounds ok...

No, man, what Im listening (and looking)is almost an "over limiting", semi- square thing, "ready for radio", not for mastering.

Good luck!

Ok

Ok good points Ciro, I'll repost with no limiting, I think I left the exciter on too come to think of it. I'll back off the snare and the limiter before I pull up the vox

Thanks

I don't feel any rudeness, just honesty, that's what I want!!! Thanks

But is very different from the first version on low frequencies.Like you had something like Vintage Warmer (with loudness) on buss that goes out on second mix, then is thinner than before (drums/bass,and snare suffered too).Vocal is clear, but due to the "new" bass frequencies , now sounds too loud)

First mix was good,I talked about vox/snare balance, but listening again today seems better (sorry, my ears...)and easier to solve compared with this (lack of)lows of second mix.Any chance to have exactly the same (first)mix but "really" nothing on the buss?

Remembering, is what "I" am hearing.Maybe you need more sugestions.

Ok

I accidently left an exciter on the last mix on all the frequencies. Also you're right the limiter was slamming pretty hard. Here are some of the things I changed from the last one..

- Listened to the mix with nothing on the 2 buss, found the kick was quite loud, I had to adjust the bass accordingly, I imagine the exciter and limter where getting triggered by this and hence some sustain was carrying on the low/mids and that's what your missing.

- I also pulled a very slight amount of low mids out. Pulled down the snare 1 db and vox up 1db with less reverb to put them up front

A few questions

- are the vox too hot now or are you used to listening to the old mix? Are you becoming biased to one mix because you've heard it first? I've done this many times

- how much can a mastering engineer change as far as vox levels?

- Is this mix balanced enough to master or will he have problems with it?

Last Mix

oh and as far as the last mix was concerned, I re saved this mix as I thought I was making small changes, gotta quit doing that. It was no good anyways due to the kick being hot in the mix

It´s only "you and me":D in this thread, i´m trying to help but (to let clear)I´m just a musician with some experience with mixes listening on a treated (but small) room. Not near a Mastering Engineer with the experience+ excellent room, expensive analog gear/ "almost"perfect monitoring...

Despite "biased ears" and vox volume + or -,second mix is thin (period).

Probably what the ME will do is restore the lows you had before.

Just curious:you will mastering only this song on* an entire album? Please, show the final result.

Ciro

*edit, or , not "on":D

Thanks Ciro, I'm doing a whole album, I've been trying to get sounds and levels as close as possible on all of the songs so the ME will spend his time making the sound better as opposed to trying to fix obvious problems that I've missed. You seem to have a real good ear so I value your opinion. I'll see if I have the old file and tweak it
