I'm sure it's been asked many times and I apologize.

Here is my situation. I have a good PC but it has onboard sound. I have an external recorder that I use for most things but I have just started to get into MIDI, I'm looking for a not too expensive card that will do a good job of playing back my MIDI keyboard without latency. I do not have a need for audio inputs or a MIDI interface.

Any recommendations ?

Thanks

Tony

What are you actually after? just something to play music from your PC at high quality? I would suggest the Audiophile 2496 if all you are after is a card just to playback your music... It has inputs, and a midi interface but what semi-pro card isnt going to have... :o

That thing is weird. I don't quite get why someone would want a card with RCA jacks on one side and 1/4" jacks on the other. It's like, oh, I'm bored today. I think I'll take apart my soundcard and swap my 1/4" jacks for RCA jacks. I'm not sure why, I just like switching up my connections sometimes. Keeps life interesting.

No seriously, why would someone want that? I wouldn't want to pull out my soundcard everytime I switched. (which, btw, I never switch anyway. why would someone using 1/4" jacks ever want to use RCA?) Not when I could buy an adapter at radio shack for a couple dollars.

To the original poster, what's your budget? You want something with good sound that'll play your midi keyboard with no latency? Get the M-audio 2496. It'll run you 100 bucks american brand new.

Thanks guys, I need a card because I'm getting too much latency when using a controller keyboard with my PC based sounds and MIDI recording.

I don't need anything fancy, I don't need to record AUDIO, I just need to add something that will improve my MIDI experience. I don't even need a MIDI input since I already have that.

I have no budget limit but I'm not going to spend mega $$$$ for features I don't need.

In that case I'd still recommend the M-audio card. It's the lowest level card as far as inputs and options goes, but it's still great for audio. And it'll solve your latency problems.

m-audio 2496
