If someone could give me some info about soundcards, I'd be much appreciated. First of all, does a soundcard determine how many tracks I can record? How many I/O's do I need? What do I plug into the I/O's? Wouldn't I just plug my mixer into the card and record from there? Thanks for any responses.

yes.. your soundcard dictates how many tracks you can record at once , although your computers specs dicate how many tracks overall you can playback/record at once..

the amount of i/o's you need depends on how many tracks you want to record at once..if your a one man show than a 2 input soundcard will be fine , if you dont have the cash than a one input soundcard will suffice..

to put it simply , yes , you plug the outputs of your mixer into the inputs on your soundcard and record from there..

Thanx Eddie, I understand about soundcards alot better now. Jeez, I must sound like a real beginner.

guitar kid,

i was in the same situation you were in 7 months ago.. i came here not knowing squat, and just picked up as i went along...

the only advantage you have is that prices have come down, and about 1400 people have joined the site since then.. so pretty much anything you ask has been answered ..

use the search in the upper right hand corner of the BBS.. its *the* most valubale source of info on recording on the net..
