Please help with volume

I am using sonar 6 producers edition..I am trying to get the cd volume.I know that I have to compress and limit it..which I have done but I still can't get loud enough.can someone please break it down for me? it is really holding me back

Go to the mixing/mastering threads- there you can search the topic & find a squillion thought, theories and thwacks on it.
You should also search on the topic the volume wars etc.
