Hey guys,

I am recording with a Focusrite pro40, and using Cubase 5. I have recorded many times in the past with no problems. All of the sudden I have this problem where when I'm recording anything it goes along just as normal, but then randomly it just stops picking up any sound but keeps recording.

It seems like it may have a greater tendency to stop getting input when you stop playing for a bar or two, but it also seems to be pretty random most of the time. I really wanted to get some recording done soon, so if anyone has any advise for me it would be greatly appreciated.

*If it helps at all I'm running a Pentium i7 860 @ 2.80 Ghz with 4.00 GB of RAM.

Thanks in advance!
Matthew

Hi, I'm no expert but seeing as no-one else has come to your rescue yet, I would suggest 3 things;
1) are the drivers for all your hardware up to date?
2) it may be a bad physical connection somewhere down the line. Try substituting different cables and cleaning up jackplugs and sockets http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/s...&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#717481
3) Cubase itself is now on version 5.5.1 If you are using 32bit plug-ins in Cubase 5 64bit the 5.5 update may help.
Really sounds like a dodgy lead or dirty connection though.

Check your buffer sizes. Play with it a bit and see which setting works best. Check your connections. Turn off any firewalls, antivirus, antispyware, antispamware, antiintrusion, antiemail, anything with the word anti- in front of it.

Stop any unnecessary background applications. Check your drivers, check your software.

Just so the basic check up of things that could cause the problem. But it sounds to me like it's most likely a CPU or ram overload so I'd try loosening up on the CPU usage by ending some programs and applications in the task manager.

Care to post some computer specs? It'll help us evaluate the issue and resolve your issue much easier and more accurately.

Your machine sounds like it should be plenty powerful. Are you running xp or win 7? 32 or 64 bit?

You say it used to work fine, whats changed recently? Have you added and new software, done any system updates etc????

When you notice the problem are you recording a mono track or stereo? If it's stereo, do both chan's drop out at the same time for the same amount of time?

How long is the drop out?
