Pioneer CD Burner- plugged to Play of the Sansui cd player, Play plugged to cd of receiver- Master Recorder

Sansui CD Player- plugged to rec. of CD Burner

JVC Tape Deck- Master Recorder

Pioneer Double Cassette Deck

MIDI hook-up from PC to Keyboard to Drum Machine

Computer Software- Cakewalk Sonar

I want to create a home studio out of the equipment so I can do a demo for my music( Rap) I wrote can someone give me some input or let me know if I need anything else like a mixer, compressor or if this set up will work. Thanks Raywon

P. S. Also, I am having a problem with the MIDI hook up, the Drum machine is not playing through the keyboard.

Looks like you have enough gear to make some serious music. I don't work in midi but I have much of my sound system hooked into a Yamaha stereo amplifier which connects two tape decks, CD, phone [yeah, I still have one] AUX for DAT, etc. All of the sound comes out of passive Yorkvilles; I have a set of Infinity speakers but since I got the Yorkvilles, I don't use the fins much.

I don't know if you really need a mixer; your recorder has a built in mixer doesn't it?

I guess a good mixer board might enhance what you already have but with that gear you should be able to do some good music.

Good luck

As for your MIDI not working, do you see the MIDI light, light up when using the SONAR sequencer? Give us more dtails as to how you are setup. Let's leave the cassette tape decks out for now.

hi amt7565,

I have usb port on my dell computer the port cable is plugged into the midiman sport 1x1 midi out cable is plugged into the drum machine in midi, drum machine out midi is plugged into the keyboard midi in, keyboard midi out is plugged into the midiman sport 1x1 midi in. I can see the hardware on the computer menu bar at the bottom right on the desk top.I install midiman sport 1x1 with a disk which down loaded ok. The Sonar program does not recognize the hardware I installed.

Raywon,

Consider getting Fruity Loops (full featured, unsaveable demo at: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/FruityLoops_win95/) for beats if you don't have it. It's really flexible, works with VST and DX effects and instruments, and would integrate well with Sonar (I use it with Sonic Foundry's Acid).

Plus, it's only $100 to download, and you get free updates for life (can't beat that).

As for the MIDI issues, you said Sonar is not recognizing the MIDIsport? That's odd. Also, why are you connecting the MIDI out from the drum machine to the MIDI in of the keyboard? Are you trying to play the keyboard through the drum machine? With the setup you described, the keyboard will not get signal from the computer without a MIDI thru on your drum machine. The drum machine would be controlled from the computer, but those MIDI messages will stop there, and not go from the MIDI out of the drum machine into the keyboard. You need a MIDI thru port to do that.

Hope that helps some. Good luck

Dude,
Sounds like the same problem I had. I too got a DELL with a MIDISPORT 2x2. You need to go the www.m-audio.com and download their latest drivers. The drivers which come on the CD is crap.

If I were you, I would return the midisport 1x1 and get the 2x2. You will definitely need an extra port sooner or later.

After reloading the drivers SONAR should see it. (Options>MIDI devices).
Let me know how it goes ;)
