Urg, I am so annoyed. I have endless problems trying to set up a home recording system on my computer.

Newest issue: When I record one track in Vegas, everything is fine. But when I record a second track with it, track 1 gets recorded on track two (in addition to track two's intended sound).

An example. I recorded a rhythm guitar track in track 1. I recorded a lead track in track two. Track 2 contains not only the lead track, but the rhythm track, too! I'm so annoyed!

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be very appreciated.
 
if this is a vegas issue, you'll probably be better served in the Sonic Foundry forum. However, it could be a sound card / driver issue....in which case you should tell us what you are using for a soundcard.
 
Brand new SB Audigy + whining

I'm using a brand-spanking new Sound Blaster Audigy card. I suspect my settings for the card could be the issue, as I'm having the same sort of problem in Cakewalk as well.

Here's the whining part:
Oh please help this lame guitargrrl before I throw my computer out the window and dance wildly on its ruined remains...
 
I might guess that the input your are using to record is the "what you hear" input rather than just the line in or mic in or whatever. What I mean is that if you are playing back track 1 as you record track 2 (as I'm sure you are), and the track 2 is recording "what you hear" on the soundcard, you will be recording track 1 onto track 2. Check out what you have activated on the sound card for record input.

I have a soundblaster live and it works this way, so hopefully it is similar to yours???
