Hi! I'm new here. I found this forum and it is possible that you can help me.

I'm looking for a simple freeware or opensource program for windows to create a midi file. It should be simple with a representation of a piano keyboard and a piano roll. Notes can be entered two ways the keys on the piano keyboard match with the computer keyboard keys and also I need to input notes directly on the piano roll with the mouse so I can then move, shorten or make them larger on the piano roll representation. And that's it, nothing else, if I can change instrument is a plus but not necessary. I tried LMMS but it is too complicated and cumbersome , too much stuff, and I didn't find a way to play with the piano roll representation as I'm explaining.

Any ideas?

Beast regards.

Try Reaper . . . it can do all you say.

You get an uncrippled free trial (which doesn't end), but the cost of a licensed copy is minimal

There are several free options you can use-- but if you don't need a lot of frills and want to stick to something basic for now, you might try Anvil Studio.
