Hello,

I'm about to put a vocal to this TRACK but there are a couple of problems with the frequencies. There seems to be too much of the lows and other ones I can't pinpoint. My voice is a high-baritone and I will need to scoop out some frequencies from that track. No, I'm not talking about later on but before I put the track to tape. I feel the track is not ready for my vocal overdub. Please tell me which frequencies I should reduce, and by approx how much for it to sound more natural and not overly bright and big as it sounds now.

Thanks for your help,

Daniel

Unfortunately, I am not at a place right now where I can download your song. I will try to help more tomorrow when I can. But to start, you may just take your eq and make a cut of about 8-10db, then sweep the frequencies until you hear things clear up. Then take note of the instrument that is most affected by the eq cut. Go back to the track with just that instrument and make the appropriate eq cut on that instrument and blend it back into the mix. This should get you in the ballpark. Eq'ing the individual problem track is going to be better for you than running eq over the entire mix.

Hope this is a place to start. I will try to listen tomorrow to help more.

BTW, male vox fundamental frequencies tend to lie around 200-800(ish), and vocal clarity lies around 2k-4.5k. Muddy frequencies tend to lie around 150-400(ish). Play with these and I bet you will get closer to what you are looking for.
