Hi,
I have a Gateway Turion 64 lap top with - I think - a Sigma Tel Audio sound card. In any case, it's got something since I'm already happily burning and listening to music through my Windows Media Player program. I want to get started by recording mainly just my voice, solo recordings and multi-tracked. I have a very modest budget. So far from what I've seen on this site, I'm thinking about downloading the free pro-tools software and buying an Audix OM5 Dynamic Hhypercardioid microphone. I tried to do the test outlined on this site to find out what kind of quality and quantity of recording this computer can do but when I go to control panels/audio/sound recording, the "advanced" button is greyed out.
Does the above game plan sound like a good one? Do I need to buy a new sound card? How do I search my computer to verify what sound card I currently have? Any other tips?
Thanks,
sEtH
