Please Help Chessrock!

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a hold of some labels / decals, etc. for my moded Bellari Tube Preamp.

You see, with the tubes, transformer, and caps replaced, it sounds pretty decent. Only problem is that it has this big, ugly red "Bellari" logo on the front of it that I would also like to have moded.

The obvious would be to just cover it with a piece of tape or something. But I think it's too good for that. I'm thinking a Universal Audio logo would look really good on it. :D

I suppose I could get me one of those label makers and stick the name "neve" on it, but I don't think neve has a logo, does he?

I'm really stumped here. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.
 
Leave Bellari on it! Wear your sin with pride. Maybe a bigger Bellari sticker. Or maybe a cheap bear brand logo a.l.a "Blatz" or "Schlitz".

If Blatz got into preamps... I'd be all over it.

These Bellari mods you speak of. how would one find out more about these mods?
 
Man, those are some snazzy looking logos, but I think I'm leaning towards the "Blatz" right now.

Put a NWSoundman sticker on it. :)

The mods were,

Replace the coupling caps with a larger value, I used .047uF polypropylene's. These ones were made for super high reliability devices. They are the best I have seen.

Replace the tubes with Svetlana 12AX7's.

Replace the opamp with Burr Brown 2604.

Clip out a ceramic disk cap that loaded the tube plate causing HF roll off at high gain.

Replace the input transformer with a Jensen JT-115.

I found that the mods make for a more open clearer sound. It's kind of subtle on some apps but more pronounced on others.

You did an awesome job, NW.

Just to give a little more qualification to this, we only had NW mod channel A. He left channel B alone, so we'd have something to compare it to.

The mod was more than worth it. I can track stuff with that channel I might otherwise be hesitant on. The most noticeable difference I could hear from it was that channel A is a bit more open . . . both on the low and the high end. It's noticeable, whatever the application.

I'd feel more comfortable tracking vocals and/or kick drum on the moded channel, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the "dirty" one on something like snare or heavy guitar. Tried it the other day, actually, and it's pretty cool.
 
Actually I am looking to buy one for myself this year.

Channel B has a new tube too, but that's it.
 
Thanks for the info. I always see the Bellari MP110 go for $99 at GC. I always wanted to see if i could take it apart and mod the shit out of it to see what would happen. what model did you have Chessrock?

The 220. I'm not sure about the 110 -- there's talk on the RAP board about it. Something about inadequate power supply and not enough room on the board for the Jensen tranny.
 
Maybe Mercenary Audio has a whole front panel you can customize with with Mixerman names like "soar" and stuff!

If it was me, I'd just chisel off that Bellari logo and write BBTTE with a big black felt marker! THAT would impress those hard to please clients.
 
I'm thinking of keeping the Bellari logo . . . but I might actually add a few more logos to it. I'm thinking a nice, big HOSA logo, and another that says Alesis in big 'ol fat letters.

Then I'll stick a picture of a big, blue bear on it and call it the Bluebear Special with big, blinking, blue neon tubes adorning it.

Ha! I'm pretty sure the mods made a huge difference - (hell - replacing the power cord pon a Bellari probably makes a huge difference!) - but mods notwithstanding, don't even THINK about it!!!!!!!!!

The transformer was about $50. The opamp was free (just call Texas Instruments and tell them you want a free sample). The tube was another $25 or so (I forget). The labor was free (which was a huge bonus).
 
I'm going to try and find a Bellari 220 on ebay for cheap and get straight to moding it. thanks for the info chessrock and nwsoundman.
 
hey chessrock, maybe I can help you, I have expericence in decals, by use of vinyl. Loads of experience also work in sign shop. If you are interested or anyone else for that matter, aaron_kendrick@hotmail.com I can pretty much do any decal out there, have the rights to produce replicas also. Will only charge charge you the ammount vinyl costs and maybe 50 cents per decal, or around that depending on how detailed the logos are. If you need some more info on it or such let me know.
