What kind of equipment are you using (besides mics)?
I have a Mackie 1202 VLZ mixer and a Behringer 2004A mixer
I use the Mackie as much as possible but need the behringer for drums because of the extra channels.
Terratec EWS 88/MT soundcard. It has 8 analog ins and outs, one midi in and out, and 1 digital in and out.
Dell P4 3.2 ghz, 1 gig ram, 2 160 gig harddrives running CEP 2.0
Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 Pro Active monitors.
and again ill list my mics
2 SM57's
1 ATM29HE (according to folks on HR, it beats the 57 hands down...judgment call i guess)
3 MB2000L's (a cheap Audio Technia instrument mic)
1 MXL 990
1 SP B1
Any advice on where to spend the next $300 to $500???
My recording space consists of 2 spare bedrooms of my house...one 10 X 11 room and one 12 X 13. I recorded the drums in the smaller of the two because someone told me to record them in a smaller area. I have since found out that i need to be using the larger room for drums, so that will be done from now on. Also, I had the mic placed just inside the port in the drum head. Next time I want to try putting it all the way inside, just a couple of inches away from where the mallot strikes the drum and see how that sounds.
I feel like my biggest weakness right now is not being able to record what im hearing as far as guitars. I get the amp sounding just right and when playing back, its just not what I want to hear. I know I just need to continue experimenting. What room would you think would be best for recording the guitars...bigger or smaller one?
