Anyone know if I can line feed a 2-channel (stereo) output from my Analog Deck directly into a Digitech GNX4 for digital conversion? GNX4’s can be found pretty cheap, especially used, and it’s USB out is 24-bit.

(Sorry for posting here, but I couldn't seem to find/get an answer on the digital forums.)

I don't see why you couldn't as long as the digitech has stereo ins. But your USB out may well be mono (I don't know for sure.) You can score a TASCAM US144 for less than $200 and it works great! That's what I do. So I would avoid using a guitar pedal as a converter unless you have no other options. Just my $.02

Nate,

Thanks for responding. A friend suggested the GENX4 to me as a "do-it-all" unit. Guitar, vocals, midi, analog tape conversion, etc. I've been asking around and comparing spec's. So far it looks like he's right.

Ordinarily I try hard to keep components separate, but this might be the exception.

Thanks again,

As I find with many other things in audio recording . . . if it works . . . go with it! I wasn't knocking it at all. I use a digitech RP500 for a lot of things. More power to ya!

I think your problem with this is more likely to be that it is mono in and stereo out. Looking at the specs for it on the Digitech site, it only has 1 x 1/4" 500 ohm input. So it doesn't seem to be able to capture stereo in.

Jedblue,

I see that as the Guitar Input. But the GNX4 also has two 1/4" "Line Inputs", Balanced or Unbalance. See page 115 of downloadable Owner's Manual.

Am I missing something here? (I admit to not being much of a sparky.)

Didn't see that. If so, you should be fine.

P64 of the manual. Using the 'dry line' routing option should do it for you.

Jedblue,

Thank you. Analog will always remain my first love. But it seems a GNX4 could resolve a lot of my archiving, mastering and mixdown worries fairly inexpensively.
