Please critique my first recording

I've posted a few lyrics here in past months, and some who responded asked to hear the music. At that time, I hadn't recorded anything as I was just putting together my small studio. I just posted a link to my first attempt in the Mp3 Mixing Clinic. I'd appreciate any thoughts. Here's the link to the thread in the Clinic.

for a first recording it is very good indeed, i remember my first attempt and to be honest it was way off this. i read what had been said in the clinic and agree with most of it, like you i also use to find the drum parts difficult, but as time goes by you learn new tricks/methods and improve. as for the tempo i'm with you on this, i have actually gone back and re-recorded whole tracks for a 1 bpm change in tempo. i firmly believe that even such a slight change in the tempo can have a huge effect on the flow of the track. here is my tip on trying to get it right (i notice you also use sx).

hook up your guitar to your system and press record and just relax and play the tune as you would normally without any metronome (you dont need to play it all). stop recording and click on the audio so that it opens the wave editor and zoom right in and delete everything right up to where the wave starts. move the track all the way to the left so that it starts exactly on the first beat. hit the space bar to play it back and count along to it for 8 or 16 bars or whatever feels best (its useful to draw lines on paper as you count each beat), on the last count hit the space bar to stop it. now make sure your transport bar is measuring in time and not beats and do this sum....

the number of beats you counted divided by the number of seconds on your transport bar, multipied by 60. i.e. beats/sec x 60.

oh, i also liked the 10 ft tall line by the way. keep up the good work.

Just listened. Comments in this forum on songwriting not production. There are some nice moments in it, it's clearly competent, but it's just dull. Sorry, no point in beating around the bush, most of my songs get quite correctly knocked for not being there, yours isn't either. Dull, boring, lyrics are cliches. But you know what you're doing, just try harder to be original.

crap man i wish i could record like that lol. the song is lacking catchy which is unfortunately the most important thing (thanx, beatles) but its a good recording well mixed.
