I don't know if I have successfully loaded these songs on the soundclick site - when I tried listening t them they were breaking up - and in any event they were pretty lo fi - as a result of a low bit rate on mp3 encoding - but comments would be appreciated - the trad jazz tune is sung by a 78 year old lady who also plays the cornet on the track

Listened to the first track, that's very good. Just about the only thing I didn't like was the piano, it's got a flat, midrangy sound, also it's panned a bit far for my taste. You should probably review your micing technique for that. I would bury the guitar a little deeper.

Overall I wouldn't mind a bit more air to the track, could be the .mp3 . . . but again, nicely done.

Second track: I don't like this as well. The balance between the instruments seems off. The vocal sounds very roomy, and it's not a good sounding room. Still too much guitar for me. Nothing sounds intimate at all.

I'm not really familliar with the genre but what I heard sounded OK to me from a tracking a mix point of view. The second track had more top end to my ears... don't know if that's a good or bad thing...

Musically speaking I preferred the second track (Blue Lable).

thanks to those who replied- it s appreciated- mlhilarious -the vocaltrack is roomy etc - we had everyone recorded together live in a small loungeroom - including the vocal , which was not overdubbed -the other track was done in a much larger room where we could get some separation. perhaps I'll try to invesigate a larger room.

Yeah, that almost always helps. What mic did you use on the vocal?

The vocal mic was a studio projects tb1 -I think that is the model no - The cardiod only tube one- not the multi pattern one -I have thought I got good results with it but you are right it - It picks up a lot of room - on some other tracks which were instrumentals this mic was not used and they are less roomy - Thanks Ross m
