i have several years experience at analog home recording and some experience of digital multi-tracking. i am in the process of deciding what i would like to do in terms of setting up a lo-fi home studio based around my notebook. i am in the market for something comparable to the MOTU 828. i need something that will allow me to digitally record up to 8 tracks at a time that is connectible (is that a word?) via USB or PCM/CIA card slot....

i have tried to do some web research on my own, and have come up dry. can someone email me and let me know if my assumptions about the MOTU are right, and more importantly, if there are any comparable products....

here's the specs again:

8 tracks simultaneoulsy
USB or PCM/CIA capable

thanks for anyone who took the time out to be friendly to a newbie on the boards and read my message and/or provide me with some advice...

To make your life easier, go ahead and eliminate USB. There are no 8-input cards because USB doesn't have the bandwidth to handle that much audio streaming at once.

Look at the PCMCIA cards from Echo.

Welcome to the board. Most people here are newbie friendly, you'll find that everyone's extremely helpful and there's a lot to be learned here.

I think that RME has a PCM/CIA card.

it can be used with their Hammerfall DSP which has 10 ins and outs I believe

I hope this helps :)
