pikingrin

what is this?
This is a song that I have recorded extremely rough, kind of an experiment in recording distorted guitars (hopefully you can hear them). I layed the tracks about 2 months ago and haven't touched it since. I would like to make this one sound halfway decent. I need to redo the vocal tracks, or at least make them sit better if that's possible at this point.

Anyway. I need feedback and input on what I can do here.

The song in question is "rough mix garbage", although you can feel free to comment on my other song if you feel the need to.

Thanks for your responses, I don't care if they are blunt, I want this to be good!!

The song is pretty cool, and pretty good.

The mix is too cluttered. Things need to be panned more so they have their own space. Also, everything seems to be at one volume. Figure out what is important and put the other stuff in the backround for now.

There may be too much going on. Trust me, you wont hear me saying that often.:D The song can stand on its own, just pan it better and you will have a good start.

This is very pretty.

You'll hate me for saying it, but I think the drums are superfluous. Perhaps some mallet work with a cymbal and an occasional tambourine strike/shake as an ambient sort of approach - but the song is anchored by the harmonics and doesn't need much more.

IMHO, YMMV, etc.

Nice playing and nice song, just sounds like some mix changes could get you a real good one.
For volumes, to me the high guitars take over the vocals too much at times. It's a nice tone though.
The instruments need some more space as DK said. On top of panning try EQing each instruments best frequencies away from each other some more for possibly better separation.
Good mood and good potential, cheers.

Vocals reminded me of Jeff Buckley a bit, same as the cascading kind of guitar riff.

Kind of hard to offer much for this because you said that it's an extremely rough mix. It sounds promising, like the other person said...certainly a bit cluttered. I dunno, look for more space for each instrument. It's just a bit hard to say you should eq this or eq that when you have said the mix is extremely rough. Do a mix that isn't so rough and that is closer to what you want, then post that too :)

Really nice song, and good vocals despite their scratch nature.

Guitars sound fine, its just the drum backing track that messes it up in my opinion, I don't it compliments or enhances the rhythm or flow of the peice at all. Redo them or lose them I think.

But a cool song.
