Hello Everyone,

This is my 1st post here. I've been putting together my meager studio lately and learning how to use it. Buying equipment is the easy part! Anyway I'd like you to check out an original. It does have quite a bit of sloppy editting, but I'm curious what you think of the overall mix. I'm trying not to go overboard with effects. My main focus is on original imput and using EQ to compliment. Happy Listening!

Im no expert...in fact Im prolly just a bit ahead of you but here's my thoughts

Your voice is a little off at the beginning of the first two verses..If I were you record two or three vocal tracks by yourself then from these put together one good one because on the third verse your voice is fine..

Secondly, I know you dont want to use many effects, but I'd double track the guitar to make it a little larger (perhaps put one track just a tiny bit out of sinc for a fuller effect and EQ both slightly differently)..

The girls voice compliments yours...the levels are nice to my ears..the end guitar works

possibly it need another instrument coming in just to keep the interest ( a flute or some basic strings??)

I'd also say you write very well...the lyrics and composition were nice..its the kinda song you dont want to over produce because simplicity suits it

try here for some good information on recording vocals

and welcome to the site...the guys here are great, advice is top, and it may get brutal so button down the hatches :)

Be brutal? Okay, the singing is awful. Both the male and female. I'd suggest harmonies, but I'm not sure yall can pull it off. Work on your singing. If this was a rock mix full of bombastic everything, then some pitchiness would be cool. But like this, you're out there all alone. The guitar sounds okay, although a little dull. It could use some high end, or "air". Welcome to the site. :)

I could not have said it better.

Wow! Those vocals are really not in key or in tune or something. At times it sounds like the melody is in a different key from the guitar...or you're singing major when it should be minor. Whatever it is, it's........dare say I say this when discussing music???.......wrong.

I'm forced to agree with the others; the vocals are very pitchy, but mostly the male. The female is much closer than the male, but the net effect is uncomfortable... Male vocalist either cannot hear himself properly to keep pitch, or, like me, lacks the physical tools to keep pitch well.

Productionwise, the acquisition is fairly linear, the guitar has a reasonably warm, rounded sound, and the vocals don't have any extraneous noise in them. So, you're on the right track here. Right now, though, the musical (vocal) execution is just sloppy enough to get in the way of our collective ability to comment much on production values.

As a side note, there's not enough going on musically to support this length. This is one long song with not much variation happening or arrangement complexity to keep interest. Given that, the focus is drawn immediately to performance, and then we're back to "wow, this is pitchy".

Keep trying though, that's what this is all about.

Agree with all other comments but overall this track is depressing, sorry. I can not listen to it.

Try speeding it up and hitting some highs in vocals and see what you end up with, perhaps throw in some positive lyrics too. Think, celebration.

Experimentation is always fun, keep on keeping on........

Cheers

Peter
