All.

A friend is putting together a DAW, and has asked for advice.

His current spec plan is as follows, could you please provide feedback on it:

Dual XEON 3.06ghz 533FSB CPU's
2GB Corsair TwinX Dual Channel Ram (ultra low latency 2-2-2-5)
Western Digital Raptor 10kRPM Sata 70 GB Audio Drive
Maxtor 250 GB Audio/Sample Drive
Maxtor 160 GB System Drive
Tagan 480 watt EPS 12V whisper quiet 21db PSU
Lian-LI full tower Aluminium case
Sony DVD-RAM drive
Radeon 7000 series dual headed Graphics card
LynxTWO - C

Finally - he's planning on building it himself, but is interetsed to know of any UK vendors who sell specs like this - so if you know of any please let me know the names / websites.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Dave

That system should rock :) I don't see any obvious flaw in it.

Have a great time with it!

I live in the UK too. Try Ebuyer.com thats where i got most of my stuff. also try microdirect and aria. Use pricerunner aswell to check all the best prices.

Ummm... he's spec'ing hardware that has more power than was even conceivable not too long ago and he's wanting us to... what? Let him know if it's got too MUCH horsepower?

Yes, his dream system will power a small city, but I didn't see anything listed in his wish list that will provide DAW functionality... Especially the onboard sound...

The LynxTWO C is a pretty expensive soundcard.

Yep looks pretty good. Asus, Intel, Corsair, Maxtor are all the right names.

It would be interesting to see what sort of track count/plugin load those dual Xeons can handle
