These are a few more tunes that I did with this singer (Joe McCarron) abut two years ago. I'll have some brand new stuff up that I've been working on with with some other folks soon but in the mean time, I'd be interested in any and all comments on this older material.
Better Place and SuperStar are with a local drummer named Andy O'Conner. He insisted on an electric kit (real snare and cymbals though) that I'm definatly not crazy about.
Wonderful Today, the drummer was just lame but that's another story altogether.
What do you think?

Streaming Super Star and Better Place

I'm definitely not crazy about the drums either... sounds very sterile and overprocessed..

Vocals is good, backing vox is bloody superb. Lead guitar is sweeet.

Damn.. if it wasn't for the drums, this would be two really good songs.. drums killed 'em. :(

Cool fx on the vox in Better Place.

Wonderful Today...
OK Reverb... :) Way to much reverb here for my taste.
This song doesn't sound as good as the two other.

Better Place

The mixing is awesome. Everything's well placed.

Phase thing with the drums?? .. They just don't jump out and kick you in the face.

Do you use lots of stereo expansion?

Super Star

Great tune.
Up the rythm guitar perhaps a tad?
Great harmonies.

Wonderful Today.
.. yeah it's wonderful. great tune.

I like the nice verb coating that provides that great ambiance during the mellow parts. .. a little less wet on the verb during the chorus perhaps.

Back at you

Great mix.
love the sax , bass, lyrics, voice, guits .. woooo!

.. this is a fantastic tune! .. how about submitting it for the next Natural Born Killers movie? :-) I can see it baby!

Hi,

I've listened to Back At You and Superstar, two very accomplished mixes which make my own efforts sound like cack by comparison.

Back At You is the classier recording/mix I think. Everything's solid, perfectly balanced and the playing is great, esp. the slide guitar. I like the drums as well. Not too keen on the vocal, the singer doesn't sound comfortable with it.

SuperStar is a better song, I think, and better suited to the vocalist. The playing is great again. The drum problem you know about. On my speakers I had too much hi-hat, esp. on the verses.

I'll be downloading Better Place tonight as I want to hear more.

Were these songs recorded on digital equipment? If they were, I'd never have known.

Very impressive, over all.

Thank you for the listen. The drums are a long story. I absolutly HATE electric drums and the drummer at the time insisted (so much for democracy) on them. No more.
It was all tracked on 20 bit ADATs. By the way, I pulled "Wonderful Today" down. I shouldn't have even put it up. I'm now working on some new stuff with three different groups of people that I'll have some "work in progress" posted for opinions. Thanks again.

Track,

I'm listening to "better place", I like this song. It's catchy to me. Yeah, as it's playing along I'm liking it more.

"How does it feel" starting......................cool. Another hit.

Nice Job and nice songs, keep em comin'.

cool.

later.

Wow, great stuff! Sort of has that World Part vibe.

I really love the instrumental choices, especially the slide on Back at You. Maybe it's my cheezy computer speakers, but I'm not hearing much bottom end to it, but that's about the only thing that I can really find not to like and that took a lot of work, cuz I was too busy bouncing around to the song.

Back to You is definitely my favorite of the bunch, but they are all great.

Sorry I'm not more helpful, next time post something with crappy songwriting so I can concentrate on the mixes.

The arrangements and backup vocals on "Better Place" and "Super star" really, really got my attention. Lead guitar was smooth and consistent, as well. Nice work!
