Anyone know if its possible to play two or more soft synths live in Sonar 2 using an external controller?

Seems that only the currently active midi track is capable of playing a synth.

Yes, I could play one synth, record the midi, then copy it to the next ... but it would be much better to hear both while recording that track.

Thanks.

...I think it's impossible, so far :( You can only map / route one MIDI input to one MIDI out at once for monitoring while recording. Even though you map the input to be recorded to several tracks (channels), but only active (selected) track will be used for monitoring. Thus, only one patch/program will be sounded.

I've tried this, it doesen't work... :(

There's no chance of setting it up, because of Sonars stupid limitation: You can't specify an MIDI In port. But it should be possible to chooce different MIDI Channels and record to them, but it won't be possible to play back 2 different DXi's in realtime...

As I thought. Many thanks for the confirmation.
And yes, it sure seems a lame limitation.

Maybe I will take a look at Steinberg's V-Stack -- looks like
it might be a way round the problem.

Cheers.

Perhaps a soft synth that can import several different formats would do the trick?

I've been fiddling with Virtual Sampler 3 and that may be worth having a look at. Be advised though, it's not in full-release version just yet.
