playback while recording

hey, i have an audigy 2 zs and am using sonar 6. I want to record a number of levels of guitar and as i lay a track down i want to listen to each as i record another. the problem is that every time i record a new audio i re-records whats already there. is there any way to separate the input from the output with this graphics card.
i'm a noob so let me know if there is a more specific forum to psot this question in.

I've never used Sonar but you should be able to set the recording device/input for the track. It should show up as [Your SoundCard Name] Left or [Your SoundCard Name] Right

It sounds like you might have it set to 'Stereo Mix' or 'Wave' or something like that, which records anything coming out of your speakers.
