Hi guys, been reading this forum for quite some time now and ive finally registered and account. Basically im trying to find a program that allows me to hear my last take while recording a new one, like acid does. Acid was great for my first program, but there are just things about it that annoy me. Ive tried several other programs with high hopes only to find that i could not hear my previous recording while laying down another track. Surely im just missing something. So any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Post some specifics about your computer and soundcard.
Mainly the soundcard .... it must be a full duplex card for it to work.
There is a mutitude of different multitracking programs that will fit your needs ... which are?
Any rate .....
n-Track will do it
Cubase\Nuendo will do it
Vegas will do it
Samplitude will do it
Multitrack studio will do it
Sonar will do it
Tracktion will do it
Ugh .... the list goes on and on.

Im using a M-Audio mobilepre usb for recording and just my sb audigy for playback, sorry for not posting that before. Thanks for all the different programs ill have to check some out. Im running my guitar through a korg toneworks ax1500g into the preamp, then to the usb of the pc, and i have a boss dr3 for the drums (dont care for it) and a shure pg58 for vocals running to the preamp as well. My pc is pretty nice, p4 and crap. I was fond of acid due to its ease of use and it seems to do everything i need, but after using it for some time its beginning to feel much like an all in one printer combo, as in it does many things, but that maybe something made for a single purpose could do it better. Im mainly looking to throw down a guitar track, then on another take bang on the drums while hearing the guitar, then adding vocals in the end, then i suppose mastering. Im pretty new to all this so sorry if i just sound like an idiot lol. My instant messenger name is So called Sin as well if anyone would rather message me than post. thanks again.

in some multitrack programs eg - magix music studio that i use you have to check the box that says playback previous tracks with the one i'm recording.
you also have to tell the program which audio and midi DRIVERS to use.
as well as the great programs listed also check out magix music studio and powertracks. both i use and love. but like any program you must tell it which sound card drivers to use. for example in powertracks youll see your drivers listed. btw i dont need a drum machine. i can build drum tracks in the programs. for example powertracks has a drum pattern maker built in
or you can use various "song styles" or edit around proper drum samples you can buy on cd's.
just try the demoes.
