Recently updated Pro Tools to 8.0.5 plus updated my Macbook from OS Tiger to OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.7.

Everytime I try to playback a recorded track, playback stops and the following dialog box appears.

"CPU Usage is holding off USB audio. Remove some plug-ins, delete some tracks or increase the "H/W Buffer Size" in the Playback Engine Dialog (-6104)"

I have increased buffer size, made plug-ins inactive. I've even upgraded my RAM from 2GB to 4GB without difference.

Also the playback line is jumpy when it plays (which is only a couple of minutes before the above dialog appears) and the mouse pointer moves much faster and more erratic than my normal mouse settings.

Below are the specifications of my macbook

Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

If anyone could help I would be very grateful as this problem is extremely frustrating!

sounds like some sort of glitch rather than an actual performance issue...

try trashing preferences (here's a tool for it http://www.jcdeshaies.com/)

if that fails, a full uninstall > reboot > reinstall of protools might sort it out.

Hope that helps.

Thanks so much Steenamaroo. I used that program and Pro tools has worked smoothly since. Sound man
