i had the same problem a couple weeks ago. it's gone though. i did do some configuring to prevent the dropouts, but nothing i can remember now, and you probably have it configured right, so i don't know what could that be. i'm not using sonic foundry plug-ins though, and i don't remember if i was using them then. maybe they're to blame. do you have any other plug-ins to run a comparison?
i'm working with as much as 24-30 tracks right now, and i'm not getting any stutter, and i'm using a lot of plug-ins. i do get a sudden dropout when i try to record 4 tracks at once. but i close cakewalk, and open it again, and it's working ok again?!
