Almost ready to purchase new CPU and plasma screen

Want to set it up so I can split the 2480 and the CPU on screen and also use it as full screen for videos/movies.

Anyone have this type of setup or a plasma screen that you have and know would work well for this?

Any suggestions of what models to stay away from are also welcome.

Using a plasma display seems like a waste with a PC. Most plasma's out there aren't capable of anything higher than 1024x768 unless you shell out the big bucks for one with a DVI connector and true 1080p support. Of course your PC would need to have a video card with a DVI output as well.

Why do you want to go with plasma anyways? LCD panels from Sony and DLP TV's from Samsung are a much better investment for the time being.

The best investment in monitors, by far, these days is still CRT's. LCD's just don't have the picture quality yet, and they cost three times as much, and Plasma's while they have great color and contrast, are usually a little fuzzy, and they wear out after like five years (burn in is a bitch). I use plasma's all the time for work, and they look beautiful, but they just don't last. Give LCD five years, and that is going to be the technology to beat. It just is not there yet. Right now, nothing can beat a good CRT.

I predict that conventional LCD displays will actually be on the way out in 5 years. The next generation technology is probably going to be either OLED (organic light emitting diode) or CNT FED (carbon nanotube field emission display). Just wait...

I just want to hang a flat TV on the ceiling over the bed. Other than that, I can't think of a reason to shell out the bucks for one.

I'm running dual CRT monitors, and couldn't be happier. 2 - 19" monitors at about $200 a pop. Can't beat it.

I wanted to go with plasma so there would be just one screen that is clearer and more pleasant on the eyes than CRT; to use for splitting the 2480/CPU and to use it full screen for vids, net, presentations and movies. I believed the atmosphere it would lend to the studio would also be a plus. Instead of getting another big screen / surround sound system for the bedroom I wanted everything in the studio since I spend most of my time there anyway.

The opinions and info you have posted here have me rethinking this (I really like this two brains are better than one process and in this case more than two) For now, I'm going to stay away from the plasma for the studio.

Thank You very much for the insights.

Wow

Just think what could be accomplished if everyone on the planet understood the connected brains theory.

OK, everyone on the planet all at once:

I submitted a video clip of my son's babbles to NASA for alternative language analysis study. It was determined that he was asking for juice.

Another drawback is that plasma screens are prone to burn in, so if you are using a system that has a menu, or leaving a logo, etc. you will etch the image into the screen permanently. Lcd's will not burn in.
