Pitch Shifting along to metronome (Cubase 6)?

Hello - just purchased Cubase 6, having trouble figuring this out, even with consulting the manual and googling... When I attempt to pitchshift a track and go to Audio>Process>PitchShift, is there any way to have the metronome still running in the background? I'd like to adjust the speed of the sample (say, drumloop) while pitching it down or up (instead of timestretching), but how can I sync it up with an existing project tempo?
If that function isn't possible, what would be the best way to pitchshift, in order to slowdown or speed up an audio sample, while having a reference to what im pitchshifting to?
