pitch axis theory

Can someone explain what the pitch axis theory is all about? How is it built up, and what practical use may I have from it?

I've read Joe Satriani blab about it, and I've seen it a couple of times but never really figured it out.

Thanks, I think I got it now. Like you said, it's nothing new...just a flashy name to something I already knew more or less.
