I saw the recent thread about fake shure 57's. I have been looking to pick up an Sm7 and came across this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Shure-SM7A-SM7-...0|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50

The price is too low in my opinion for a Sm7a , especially new. It also says it is located in Hong Kong and the seller has 4 of them. Not considering buying it at all lol, just curious if there is as much documentation about pirated Sm7's as there are 57s . I am hesitant to buy used now.

I think that would probably be too little for an sm7 since so many people claim it's so much better than the A and B version, but that's about right for an sm7a, maybe even a little steep.

I have never heard any claims about any of them being better than the others....I thought they were pretty much all the same with minor difference in wireing or something...or maybe I heard something was different in the mount on one of them.....

I think it's the mount that's the difference. I bought two SM7b mics new, and the box and insert look just like the ones in the picture, for what that's worth (except they say "b" on them, I guess)

A7ws

i think the "b" means it comes with the A7WS, which sells for about $22

i got an A7WS when i bought mine from sweetwater, i don't see one in the picture of the "a"

i think the sm7 to sm7A might be wiring and the "a" to "b" is just the fat wind screen.

i could be wrong but this is just my input at first impression.

I concur. I own an SM7b, and in my research before buying, this is what I found as well.

$300 is a fair street price. I bought my SM7b from GC for about $289, but that was several years ago. I doubt they are fakes, but that doesn't mean I'd give the money to some unknown in Hong Kong, either. The street price is $350.00 new these days. BFD. Buy the mics from a reputable dealer, or take a chance on some Home rec'er on the "good guys list" in Peoria.-Richie

I got mine mint condition for $280 shipped.

The word from Shure is that the "A" and the "B" simply refers to improvements in wiring as relates to shielding and reducing EMF. Otherwise, Shure says the rest of the mic is the same.......

Bruce Swedien and others claim that there is some magical difference in tone between the sm7 original and the A and B models.

I don't have any experience with the sm7, but have used the sm7A and the sm7B and have never cared to do a shootout.

$300 is good street price for new SM7B

You can find SM7B new for $300, but the average price is around $350. Just got mine for $299 with a mic cable from streamlineaudiovideo.com who matched the deal that uniquesquared.com was offering.

I have 2 SM7s and an SM7b. I don't hear any significant difference in sound, although the yoke is nicer in the SM7b. Shure sells the new yoke separately and I understand it will fit the SM7. At some point, I'll probably pick up a couple of the new yokes to go with my SM7s. FWIW, I bought both my SM7s used for $200 each. Both have been beat up a bit, but sound great. I paid $270 shipped for my SM7b used and in mint condition. IMHO, I don't think there is any particular benefit to buying an SM7 over the SM7b. Certainly not worth paying a premium for.

I dont want to be flamed...but I paid $80 at a pawn shop for mine...and I bought 3 sm57s for $20 each the same day.

I wouldn't take the chance.

I wouldn't take the chance. Not from Hong Kong anyway, the fakes are made in China.

I search around Ebay for bargains all the time, but I recommend buying from an authorised dealer. Pro Audio Star seems to have some good bargains on Shures and claim to be authorised dealers.

If guitar centre sells it for the same price I'd go with guitar centre, then again, they're the ones that got that big batch of fake Oktava mc012 a couple of years back. That's the story anyway...

He also has Beyer m160 mics that he's selling for $299 "Buy It Now"!!! Makes me wonder.

Because you guys are talking about proaudiostar I will comment. I bought my dmp3 from him for $130 new and it works great. He is cheap and has amazing customer service. I just ordered a SM7B from him and will be getting it for $305, free shipping, with a mic stand, and 3 xlr cables. 2 day shipping also. Seems pretty good haha. Ill let you guys know how it goes.
