I plugged my audio buddy preamp into the blue port, mic into the preamp, and got no sound. Plugged into into the pink port, (which was where the old mic went,) and I get sound. Although far too loud and distorted. can you help? Thanks.

dont plug it into the pink one that one is already pre amplified. your program probably only taking signal from the microphone input. go into the settings and change it from microphone in to 'line in' and plug your audiobuddy back into the blue one.

Use the sound card mixer to enable recording from the line input. Mic is selected by default.

More Volume

Thanks for the help. Got that right. Now, I've turned up the volumn controls but my voice is still sound too soft. Any tips?
I've got a new sound blaster sound card and a shure 58sm mic.
Best, joan

You are probably using the the Playback volume instead of the record volume level on the Creative mixer. Set the selected record input to max and use the gain on your external mic preamp to set the correct levels.

Are you working on an audio book?

Audio book

Yes, I am, and now I'm going to follow your instructions. Joan

Thank you.

So much to learn. But I'm getting there - slowly. Thanks to you guys.

Hi Richie, JGourd et all:

Your advice worked great. The sound is quite nice, if I do say so. I'll be trying to make my first mp3 today for my page at www.joanhallhovey.com/Voice.html
And then I've got to learn how to burn a cd. It still looks pretty complicated, but as everyone says one thing at a time. As Arnold says: "I'll be back. "
All the best, Joan
