Hi all,
I'm trying to upgrade my CPU from a PIII 500mHz 512k 100bus speed to a PIII 800mHz CPU. The BIOS on my MOBO is the most current version. My MOBO, an Intel SE440BX-2 will only take upto an 800mHz 256k 100 bus speed CPU.

Here is the question: If I install a 133 bus speed 256k 800mHz CPU will it work even though my MOBO is only 100 bus speed?

Thanks,
ThreeDogg

It'll probably work, but it'll run at something like 600Mhz because of the bus speed. I believe you can get up to 850Mhz (on 100Mhz bus) though, so check into that.

Not to offend, but why bother?

Going from 500 to 800Mhz really doesn't give you much of a performance boost. I'd save more money and pick up a P4 and new mobo instead.

Agreed. I would spend more money and get new CPU/Mobo/RAM, you would see a vastly greater speed increase.
