...which also helps with sound proofing.
Well it doesn't appear like you have anyone really close by to complain about the music....looks like it's a nicely isolated spot.

well I'm officially jealous of everything you have lol
It is hard to stop the bass frequencies from going through anything.
DI
Not that there's anything wrong about miking bass cabs...but I haven't done that in like 7 years or more while recording a band, but when I play bass for my tracks, it's always DI. Oh...and that last time, we also did a DI along with the mic, and guess what, we kept the DI. You can get great bass tracks without ever disturbing your neighbors, so if it's just the bass bothering them, try some DI tracks.
Now drums....that's another story. You can't DI them.
My studio has ZERO *soundproofing*, (but I do have acoustic treatment), and I have three large picture windows facing out into the yard. I have some neighbors around me within a 100 yard radius, though on the back side where my studio is, some a little further away, and there's also lots of trees back there, but on the front side maybe only 50 yards to my closest neighbor, though they are cool and their daughter is learning to play sax, so I can hear it all the time outside. Then there's a house to the back corner about 200-250 yards away that has a drummer, 'cuz I can hear him practicing some nights (he's pretty good), and I've been meaning to trace him down (I'm guessing it's some high-school kid) maybe see if I can get another drummer on tap for recording...but anyway...I've never had anyone complain, and man, there's been some late nights in my studio with drums until 2:00AM and guitars until 4:00AM!!!
I think I get away with it mostly 'cuz the back of my place is up on a hill overlooking the houses below...so the sound waves don't hit them directly, and to the front, I have my whole building acting as an insulator...but some nights I was almost expecting a knock on the door.![]()
I love your layout. Very nice. Yeah, bass is hard to slow down. My studio is in a cinderblock basement and I built a floating room in a room. It slows bass down but it didn't stop it.
It wasnt easy to build all this, it took lots of time, money, sweat and commitment. I guess it will always be a "Work In Progress".

The floor is not floating. It's an industrial carrpet over concrete. I basiclly started my walls about 2" off the cinderblock wall. Those walls tie into the outside walls every 6' to help keep things strong. Same with th ceiling. You have to understand, when I built this room 25 years ago, there wasn't a lot of todays "conventional wisdom" on how to build a studio going around. I just read The Master Handbook Of Acoustics by Alton Everest and went to it.
VP, where in Rhode Island are you?
Right in the middle of the state, 3 miles from 95.

Nice, VP.
Very nice.
I'll post a snapshot of my coffee table in my living room next week so you can see mine.
