I am not a carpenter... I just play one during manic cycles.

I really liked Frederic's metal desk and wish I had a welder to try out my design with steel contruction but since I dont...

Here is a pic of the legs and "pedestal". I am working on the top piece next.
I designed this based around an argosy desk for a FW-1884. I wanted the top to me modular so that as my needs change I can just make a new top.

The second shot is the control room I am working on.

Here's a link to the design for the desk incase anyone is interested (imade some changes once I started cutting things :))

Looks really cool. I wish I had that space to work with, hehe. My dad just bought an....argon? welder, or something. It's pretty cool, he tried welding two fridges together, and it worked, :D. I think I would be interested in trying to weld a desk and getting rid of this crappy particle board one I got 4 years ago. You may have just been an inspiration to me. Mhmm.

Thats what I said too.

Funny, when I saw your post I immediately looked at the pictures and replied with a picture of my desk, not realizing you had stated the above - I guess I skim messages too fast.

Anyway, I'm very flattered, thank you.

And BTW, you can rent a welder if you REALLY wanted to give it a try. The family owned rental place here rents the same unit I have for about $40 a day. If the weather cooperated (and various other things going on in my life) I could have welded my 12.5' wide console table in 10 hours.

I can see you've made good progress with the wood, but maybe down the road if you want to weld something together, rental might work for you, for a one-off.

Next update might be after the weekend... I am working on the top section. I cant finish the sides until I decide on how the top is going to sit. Originally i had planned for a Tascam FW1884 + 2 add-ons. The other side is a rack unit (hence the depth of the pedistal) I now have decided to fit a pair of 01v mixers for the top. more pictures soon.

cool, cant wait to see it, im gonna post up pics when i build my desk but it could be a while becouse i keep changing my mind about the design.

Dang. I was looking forward to seeing it with the 1884 as that is what I'm using.

Oh well It's still a great looking project. Can wait to see it completed. :)

LOL - I was dead set on the FW1884, but then I had a chance to use one and while its an excellent sounding combo card/controller, I was very disapointed by the lack of any type of cue mix capabilities. Since I mainly record singer songwriters (or as I like to call them - depressed lesbians with guitars) I need flexable can mixes without routing through the DAW. And I got a hell of a deal on a pair of 01vs.

It may take me longer to finish though as I snapped the timing belt on my car last night and its gonna cost me 400 to replace. I guess Toyota OEM timing belts can only go 256,346.8 miles :D

I have a friend that uses a pair of 01v's. Very clean and nice sounding mixes. I'm sure that you will be happpy with them :)
