Piccallo ringing problem - please help!!

I have a mapex brass master 13" piccallo snare that I am tracking through an Art DPS mic Pre.

I have a single ply Evans G1 head on the top and an Evans clear snare side skin on the bottom.

The drum is tuned nice and high for the crack.

My problem is the nasty ring. I have tried eq, moongel, e-rings, tape and cotton wool but they all just kill any attack.

Any ideas, how about a sinlge ply batter head with built in muffling?

Your help would be appreciated.

Check the tension on the snare side head.

If you've wound the batter quite tight, make sure the resonant is at least as tight, if not a tad tighter

Yep, I have the bottom head tuned higher than the top head. The ring is still there though. Any other ideas?

Hmmm. Maybe the res is too tight. Have you tried taping a small piece of cotton to the res?

Are the heads new?

Do you still get the ring with the snares off?

How about you loosen everything off, rotate the heads around the shell a little and start over.

try a 2 ply coated head. this will give you the attack but less ring.
