At the moment I'm using a korg N1 and I'm happy enough with the sound quality but I have noticed that the Piano sounds more realistic in the high and low end than it does in the mid-range.

Anyone noticed this, if so, got any reason for it?

that's because they're sampled sounds... a real piano would keep alot of the reverberation in the high end even when playing on the low keys, a bad simpulation doesn't....

btw, it's my experience that you can make more realistic piano sounds with a modeling synth than a sampler / rom synth, unless we're talking about huuuge sample banks or a dedicated stage piano...

The search for the perfect piano sound is never ending. Play a bunch of them until you find one that you like.

Neverending sounds about right.

Thanks for the replies, I'll keep trying.

In studio, recording stuff, I'd rather use SoundFont... most of them offer good realistic piano sound. Korg is good on brass & horn things I think.
:) :) :)

Steinberg's "The Grand" ...

Have you checked it out yet ?

Seems to be the best piano module around ...

For recording I would always use a real piano.

As for ananswer to my original question some one put it to me that I probably find the mid range more un-realistic cos those frequncies are more common in everyday life and therefore your ears are more used to hearing them, therefore sharper, and therefore more critical.

I think.

"If you can; use a real piano"

Hear, hear.

And also, for more professional recordings, use a real pianist...
