My father has had his Kawai GE-1A for a while now and I have just recently been interested in trying to make some recordings with it. Upon my first attempt I found that I got a very boomy sound with little definition. At first I thought maybe I needed to experiment more with mic placement (I was using a AT4033a and RODE NT5) but then I realized that even to my ears I was not getting a very pleasing sound. Then I figured that there must be something wrong with the room. Upon looking up acoustic room treatment I found a boat load of information but nothing really geared towards pianos. Right now the piano is in my living room/tv room space which is about 20ft x 15ft with a raised ceiling that is 8ft on the outside and about 10ft on the inside. Also the entire space is carpeted. I haven taken some pictures to better show the room. I really am interested in what type of room treatments I would need (bass traps, absorption panels, etc.) that would not be very intrusive and where would the optimal location for the piano be without moving things around too much (I do not think the piano should be in the corner like it is but I am not sure that moving it would help) Thanks...
