HI,
I'm sequencing midi using sonar 1 on pIII 800, 512 Mb ram running win2K pro. My data files are on a separate harddrive.
The screen latency is driving me mad. When I draw a note or drag it around it takes seconds for cakewalk to do its thing. Can anyone help me? I'm not running any audio (winamp is usually running though)
thanks.
scott.

start/control panel/system/performance. Adjust your display setting for performance. Also is that sonar 1 or 1.3?? and is your pc dedicated for recording? 2K- Pro is a memory hoger, even at 512 RAM. Disable your group start-up items, that may help a bit as well.

Try moving one of your projects to your local drive where Win2k and SONAR reside. If you still have the lag, the odds are you have too many things running in the background. Also check that you have downloaded SP2 for Win2k since that resolves some issues with DMA and UDMA modes for both CD-ROM's and HD's.

Turn off any virus software that you may have. Lower the video bit depth to 16-bit, depending on your vid card.

check here for other things to look for.

Also defrag your hard drive.

thank you both for the replies.
I have windows installed on C, sonar on E (a partition) and data on D (unique physical drive). Maybe I should install win98SE and install sonar to C as well. I heard win98X doesn't *really* recognize over 128Mb of Ram though.???
thanks again.

also:
SP2, sonar 1.3. 16bit video (gforce 32Mb card) and unfortunately no it's not yet dedicated although I don't surf with it. I need it for multimedia and web design too. (my day job)
