Hey!

As some of you know, I just moved. So, I'm re-mixing a couple of tunes. I'm not posting them all because most of them are songs I've already posted. But there are a couple I've re-tracked some of the tracks or I'm just not sure if the mix is good. This is one of them.

Any help on the balance, vocal volume (I always find my vocals too loud), low-end, etc....is much appreciated.

Thanx

Absolutely love it !! This song definitely has an Ace Frehley vibe to it (said in a good way). Love you guitar tone. What did you use ? I just saw you're from Montreal too. :)

I think it mostly sounds balanced and very good. Guitars have just enough raunch while still being articulate. Vocals seem fine to me. The only critique I have, and this is really nitpicking, is that the hats seem awfully centered while the rest of the kit has a nice spread. They kind of have that centered "trashy" sound of too much hats coming through snare bleed and it's clashing with what the overheads are getting. Know what I mean? I don't recall hearing that before in any of your tunes. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm basing that off my own experiences of getting too much hat bleed in the snare mic.

Cool. Ace Frehley? Now that you mention it, I guess it might have some KISS-type elements. That's a cool thing, even though I'm not a member of the KISS army by any means. :D

For the main riff on the guitar, I used the "WAVES" guitar amp. It takes a lot of tweaking to get a good tone, but I stumbled upon this sound when I was screwing around with it and I liked it, so I kept it.

Thanx a lot.

Thanx Greg. I hear what you're saying about the hats washing a little. I think the first time I posted this, a few months ago, someone else mentioned it too. It's weird because, when I solo the sanre mic, there's not that much hat in there. When I solo the overheads, it's distinctly coming out of the right side. But when I put them together, it washes out a bit. Anyway, it be what it be. I might have gotten lazy and not checked the snare mic position carefully enough when I tracked. Something to watch it for next time.

Thanx a lot, dudeski. :)

I hope you dont take this the wrong way,

but i think this is a rare miss for you as far as mixing goes.

the the guitar that leads you in doesnt cut enough. make that bitch cut like a chainsaw man, it'd be nice.

also i think the highhat is too loud compared to the rest of the kit.

I normally love your mixes but this one isnt doing it for me.

I'd like to hear some fatter bass and i'd like the snare to have more oomph rather than the pop. Piccolo?

Thanx Bisson. I never take honest opinions the wrong way. That's what I'm looking for. I'll take all that into consideration. I can turn down the overheads and see if that helps. The snare is not a piccolo. Same metal sanre I've been using for a while now. I did have it tuned up because I liked the pop I got for this song, but that's all a matter of taste.

Thanx man, I appreciate that.

i got a pretty monsterous headcold going too, so that may be clouding my judgement.

Maybe, but you made some good points worth considering. Actually, I'm in the middle of re-mixing it with the overheads a little lower. This was my first "new" mix of this song, so I knew I'd have to go back and fix a few things after posting here..

anxious to hear it! i relistened today (feeling much clearer) and i agree with my original opinion.

Obviously auto save doesn't work. I got some "stay on this page " shit and I lost my friggin post....
Well I remember that...
- the intro guitar works for an effect but I found it too low.
- I hate that you play slide so well
- I never noticed the hi hats
- It's a great tune that rocks
- I've never heard Ace's solo stuff...

Good. Good, good.
I love the intro guitar and would like to hear alittle more of it in the genral mix but the mix stands well as it is. You a grand job on all the vox.

Rami!

too many time without posting and I found your new song, it´s always good to hear you. How are the things in (now cold I guess?) Canadá? Excellent song as usual, congrats !!! :listeningmusic: Hugs from (now hot as hell) Brazil !!!!:drunk: Ace Frehley meets Joe Walsh on solo :guitar:

All the best for you my friend!

Yo... About 1/4 of the way through, while listening through some nice cans (HD650's), I found myself wanting to hear the overall drum kit more. Guitars were just a bit overpowering for me. If I were mixing, I'd just nudge up the entire kit by about 1 db (maybe a bit less), and then nudge the snare up another 1db or so, and maybe the kick likewise but nothing more. I want that snare slapping me in the face. It's got a great tone, and I wanna hear it. Great mix, man. I think I'm gonna go listen again.

Hmm.... on 2nd listen, I cranked the volume, and I think I may have mis-spoke. I don't think it's the drums needing a boost. I think it's the vocals that need to be lowered a bit. The instrument sound stage seems to be pretty tight. When vocals are full, drums get covered a bit too much, in my opinion.

Okay, now I'm really going to bed. Serious.

You know what I like about your mixing style, Rami? You're able to get loud to sound natural. That's not an easy thing to do. Most folks just press the shit out of things until the glass sheen sucks the life out of the recording and all that's left is a bright sonic collage press thin against the glass ceiling. Your recordings are loud, yet still retain nice definition and most importantly, depth.

Performances are spot on ... everything working in sync here. Nice job.

I don't have much of a problem with the hats, RAMI. Drums sound pretty good to me.

Thanx guys. I was trying to let this thread die, and it was on page 2 for a while, until someone revived it.

To be fair to the person that mentioned the hi-hats were too loud, I did turn them down and re-mix it since that post, so the last few people that listened heard a newer version. His comments ,at the time he made them, were valid.

To be honest,I hate this song and I'm sick of listening to it. So I'll close the thread now, but not out of disrespect to anyone. I just want it to die a peaceful death down on page 10 as soon as possible. :D

Thanx for all the help.
