I'm interested in buying a phono preamp. I'm only interested in the little direct box types. My question is which one to go with? Are they all the same in the under $100 category? That's how much I'm willing to pay btw. I've seen Art, Rolls and one other brand I believe. Does anyone have experience using these devices?

thanks,

They sell one @ RadioShack that's probably all you need. And it's cheaper than the ART or the Rolls.

I'd like something a tad higher in quality than radioshack. I'm thinking now the way to go is to try to buy a better one used. The question is which one will sound best in my limited range? Project Audio Systems makes one for about $100, it got good reviews. One just sold used for $50. If that one sounds nice that's the kind of deal I'd like.

NAD makes an outstanding one for about $200.... I use it myself...

Thanks,

I'll keep the NAD in mind. I just read a review about it. The specs are not bad either. I'm still going to try to find a used one of whatever I pick. THe other I'm interested in is a Thorens.

thanks,
