I'm getting close on finishing the studio. However, until some real cash starts flowing, I'm looking to cheap my way through hooking up a phone to the board. Without spending the 200 bucks for a real cheap hybrid, what are the other options? I've seen a little splitter box for 100, but that seems expensive for half-assing it. I've found a sound switcher with a phone input, would that work??? If I used an output on the board to the switcher's mic input and ran the headphone out to the board as an input. Would this work or sound like crap? help is welcomed...

What are you trying to do? Is the connection for radio, or someplace you need to record *actual* phone conversations, or are you just simulating the low fidelity as an effect?

radio

It would be a studio for radio production and talk show...

This may be crazy....but how about the little pickups that Radio Shack or places sell to hook up the phone to a tape recorder?

At RadioShack.com I see a pickup, part number 44-533 that costs a whole big $4.99. At that price, its worth just giving it a try!

handset

But wouldn't that little suction cup thing just record the phone conversation via the handset, making the whole thing sound like its on the phone? I guess its looking more and more like I have to break down and buy a hybrid, unless I can find a good modem to do the trick. I used to have an IBM that had a program where I could record phone call while talking on the mic. And that was just a normal Aptiva... (maybe with the old best buy card I can find a good moden and software. With no interest until I'm long since bankrupt, its maybe worth it)
