NM - Land of Excrement
I'm thinking of going to the Phoenix Guitar Show, 25-27 Apr. Has anyone ever attended this and do you think it would be worth the 6 hour drive?

The last show I went was 6 or 7 years ago. Its a guitar show......how much do you like guitars? I don't think it was the same show as now. This one is at the Colluseum, right? The one I went to was at the VFW. It was cool. But I was like 15 with no money.

I'd think any excuse to get out of NewMexico would be worth a 6 hr drive!:p

And there's more than a few great golf courses here too.

This one is at the Civic something (Center?) right downtown on 3rd Street. I love guitars. They are advertising guitars as well as guitar related gear. $10 entry fee. I've never been to a show before but I can spend hours in music stores looking/playing the guitars.

Phoenix Civic Center or Scottsdale Civic Center? I don't know where the PHX one is, but we have two 3rd streets, and the Scottsdale Civiv Center is fairly close to one of them, if I am not mistaken. Phoenix is close to the other main 3rd st.....pretty fucked up if you ask me.........:)

How'd you know I love golf too?
Your profile.
I don't know what your financial situation is, but there are so many nice resorts to stay at here it's incredible. I would give a thumbs up to visiting Phoenix for anyone, especially if they live in NM!

That show sounds pretty cool. It's a freakin huge building that it's in. I say go for it. See if you can catch a diamondbacks or coyotes or suns game, go out to dinner a few times, buy some guitars... What could be better?

Fortunately my daughter recently moved to Mesa so I can stay with her. She lives in a neighborhood called Red Mountain something. They have a course in the neighborhood but it's hoity toity private and I probably couldn't get on. I've played at a couple courses in Mesa but not in Phoenix. One of these days I'll play there. Is parking downtown a pain?

Bank One Ballpark is AWSOME. They even have $1 tickets available day of game in the upperdeck. Most of the good seats are sold out already, since we love our Diamondbacks. (I know, we don't have the best record this year, but it will change........:(........I hope........

Yeah, and if you're going to be here on the 26th, how would you like to see a show in the Phoenix area? My band is playing at Nick's 24/7 Pizza on the 26th, and I can show you my guitar.

I've been to the Texas Guitar Show here in Chicago a few times.

One thing you'll notice is that the vintage guitars are waaaaay overpriced.... in fact, I'd go as far as saying that the prices are a total rip-off.

The only worthwhile deals I saw were on new "blemished" Seagull acoustics and some blemished Alvarez acoustics... which were close to 30% off the regular price because of minor (virtually unnoticeable) flaws in their finish.

If you're going there just to view all of the "eye candy", then you'll have a decent time. You're going to see some really nice vintage guitars. Just go there with extremely LOW expectations.
Also, you have to realize that many of those vintage guitars have had parts swapped out, thus de-valuing the guitar. The sellers will RARELY tell you that some of the parts are not original, and they'll still charge you the higher "all-original" price. Another thing to look out for is the all-out fakes. There's alot of Strats, Teles, and Les Pauls out there that are very convincing fake-copies of the much-desired 50's and 60's models....right down to the yellowing, fret-wear, and belt-buckle scratches. If you don't know how to spot the warning signs.... DO NOT BUY! Many of the sellers travel from long distances to the show and you'll never see them again.
Be VERY cautious if you plan to buy a guitar at a guitar show.

I didn't know they had live music there. How's the pizza?
What time do you play?
We could have a homereccr pizza party!
