I know we were making fun of GS in another thread. But I was just lurking over there and this warning popped up, so FYI:
I've received similar kinds of crap on emails re: clist ads. "Please confirm this is the model I'm looking this is the one I'm looking for: (url to who knows what....)"
URGENT WARNING RE PM's from member "Butterfan" - Fraud / Phishing alert - please read.
It was brought to my attention by a GS member that he had received a bogus PM from a forum member. (se note below) the PM message contained a link that sent the GS user to a bogus web page that looked like a GS forum page but wasn't - with a message to log in for access.
This was / is a password "phishing" attempt. Safari & Firefox browsers will probably flag a warning if visited - but if on a ********** or iPhone it might not be so clearly bogus.....
I have no reason to believe this was especially aimed at Gearslutz - I believe it to be a general / random attempt by a web fraudster looking for names and log in passwords. This has been reported to the web host hosting the files and other action has been taken that I can't discuss.
PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL if you receive a PM from this user - DO NOT click on the link. If you have - please take the precaution of changing a) your password here and b) ANY SITE USE THE SAME PASSWORD AT.
We have removed all PMs from this member, but please feed back any info you may have on this or any other scams. If you receive a similar PM, please report it to a moderator or support@gearslutz.com.
This site only asks you to log in once to be able to post etc - it never re-asks you or needs another log in to access certain sections or threads.
Thanks in advance for your vigilance
