Philips Harmonic Edge Soundcard Problem

I bought one of those cheap Philips card for my sister's comp...Shes running Win98se on it...I installed the drivers but i get a problem...for example when it asks me to inser the win98se Cd Rom...It wont detect it...it keeps asking me to insert it...thats when it gets to installing the MPU401 device...so I skip installing that...I checked the Device Manager...everything installed correctly...yet I dont get a sound control at the task bar...and I went to check the ControlPanel>Multimedia folder and the Sound In/Out is grayed out...Whats going on?

are you sure the card is properly installed? this could be a couple of different things.

Well my friend told me to change slots...that it could be an IRQ issue...ill try that later on today....can you be kind enough to list some other things I can do in order to get this card running?...Thanks again
 
my guess is that the drivers weren't loaded correctly...but that's just a guess.
