Hey guys,
I was thinking about buying a Philips cdr-770 for mixing down and stuff. . .a friend is selling a nice mint one cheap! I really don't want to use my computer to mix, . .

Does anyone have any experience using this model. . .I heard that they can be a little temperamental, . . also how is the playback quality-- will it playback store bought cd's as well .. ?

What other types of used, or new consumer stand alone cd burners are out there, that are any good? Thanks in advance!

I have one and it works great once I figured out how to use it. Mine was a "demo" model so I had no manual to learn from. I've used it for a couple of years now without any problems. If you have broadband you can download some of my songs at my website and listen for yourself.

I recently bought a Phillips CDR770 off eBay. But I can't get the CD drawer to open! The machine powers up OK and the display comes on, but when I press 'OPEN' it whirrs like a CD player should do but the drawer remains closed. Anyone suggest anything?

Unscrew the case screws with a screwdriver? Seriously, there's not much to a CD drawer. It's probably something silly like a broken CD in the tray wedging it shut or something....

There are no case screws, it's an external cd-rw. I have had zero trouble with mine. Have you tried opening the cd drawer with the remote and the open/close button on the unit?

I have yet to see an external case that wasn't assembled with screws. No, scratch that... I have one really bizarre ine that entirely snaps together with rubber pieces to hold the hard drive in it without a single (user-removed) screw. That said, I have yet to see a non-craptastic case without screws. :D

You're right, it's assembled with screws, tear into it.

You fellas have almost given me the confidence to get my screwdriver out. Unfortunately, being a total asshole as far as using a tool of (nearly) any description goes, I think this is a job for ....... someone else.
Thanks for the replies.
