Most DAW software these days support sync to SMPTE or MTC. Use the highest frame rate supported by both, and never split a stereo pair between tape and DAW. Also, chasing the clock will put an extra load on your computer, which could be a problem with a slower computer if you're also asking it to run a boat load of tracks and plugins. Otherwise, I've had pretty good results using MTC sync. It's not sample accurate, but it's close enough in most situations. Of course you lose one of my favorite things about DAWs; instant locates, rewinds, and loops. But sometimes I do miss the sound of tape.
