Just Killing Time
Poorly intonated, cheap guitar. 1 clean track, 1 main solo track, and 2 "light" solo tracks. Polished turd, mountains of EQ. Just messing around really :o

Not looking for any mix critique really, just thought I'd throw it up because I'm a loser with nothing better to do :laughings:

Enjoy :)

Dude that is awesome i think you need to write something to that. It sounds as if it speaks from the soul with the sound of it and there has got to be something that fits in there. That would be a great ballad for any situation. Great little riff.

Rock on, my brother! That's sweet! Excellent phrasing, very expressive. You have angular moves from note to note and phrase to phrase that sound so much than simple linear moves (me--I'm stuck in the linear approach.)

I'm downloading this one and saving it. :)

Holy crap. When the solo started I though yikes that's cheesy. 50 seconds in I started getting goosebumps and they only got worse. Thanks for that philbagg. Can I maybe sing something on this?

I've probably written a few songs already based on those ideas of chords. The solo was chopped up from multiple improvisations :o

But yeah, I do plan on writing a proper song based on some of this stuff.

Basically, the story of this song was just me messing around last night, finding a decent clean tone, and running with it :)

WS, I was kinda hoping you'd chime in on this :) It was kinda reminding me of your "Legacy" tune. No intention of insult :o

I've no idea what you mean about angular and linear though

Explain? :D

It is cheesy, don't make any mistake about it :p

Dude, you can do with this whatever you like, just make sure I hear about it :D

And, as a communal message to you all: Thank you :D

"Angular" suggests bigger, less predictable jumps between notes in your lead work (in other words, points of the lead are connected with "angles"). "Linear" suggests smaller, more predictable steps between notes in your lead (in other words, the points are connected in simpler, up and down in "lines").

While both approaches certainly remain rooted in scales, an angular approach is to my ears more entertaining, potentially more melodic, and less likely to simply sound like moving up and down a scale.

A linear approach might move between lots of the same points as an angular approach, but it's more likely to use all the notes of the scale to get there, thus of course, it's far more likely to sound like moving up and down a scale.

So when I say you're playing sounds angular--I mean that as a compliment. It's very musical, very melodic. I'm jealous.

That'd probably be the first time a guitarist whose skills are much better than mine has ever been "jealous" of me :o

Thanks WS, that means a lot coming from you :) :drunk:

For some reason i picture this being played at Goose's Funeral in top gun.

Good job.

I like ggod solos that aren't shredded. I like this one too! I can hear it on the Ghosts soundtrack or POint Break!

Phil, this is awesome, totally beautiful!
Now explain how you recorded the guitars 'cos I'm jealous.....;)

Thanks Joey :D

Jealous? Why? I think it sounds terrible!

Guitar Rig 4, Pro Tools 8, Mbox 2, and a shitty "rockwood" les paul copy, that's it :o

it was just unpredictable enough to be really enjoyable. nice ditty.

Dude, this one SUCKS... it was wayyyy too short. :D Hope you build on this idea. I realy like what you've got going so far.

cheers,
