PHAT drums in MIX

I really like the drums in the mix.
I like the tune.
I like the rhythm guitar that strums.
I really really like the other guitar with those reverbed/chorused arpeggios.
Didn't hear the bass much in the mix. I think it was killed or something.

The singer could be turned up a little. I think in a couple of places I thought he didn't pump out the tune enough to hit the correct notes. But I mean just yelling louder should fix that. :)

Around 2:44, I noticed a fuzz on the guitar that comes in. That stays thru pretty much the end.

Listening again, the fuzz is there on the chorus of the song also.

I didn't say the fuzz was bad, I just noticed it as sticking out.

The song is really really good. I would definitely listen again.

On a third listen, the guitar fuzz is not important during the first part of the song. Even towards the end, it wasn't that visible this time.

I think once the bass player is found, the song will sound fine. Actually I can't hear the bass at all.

I do like the way the kick has a punch.

Really cool song overall.

Nice drum/guitar mix at the start. I agree with Bubba...vocals could come up. Actually, maybe the drums were just mixed pretty loud. They sound pretty good though. I think I hear the bass coming through at times, but it is buried. The song is pretty cool, and the singer has a good voice. You should try and re-mix this to showcase that some more. My first thought is to lower the levels of teh drums a little, and maybe the guitar, and try and get the voice to stand out a little more, but don't kill the drums in the process. And I would like to hear a bit more of the bass in this also.

Just some thoughts, as you have all the elements there for a great tune, and they seem well recorded. Now, just some tweaking. Nice tune Eck.

Good song.
I like more bass myself. Great drum sound. Bring vox up a little more.
Excellent work!

Vocals could come up a bit. Theres some kind of nasty grit/distortion on the guitars in the highs. I believe its still there even during the clean sections with the guitar picking the indiv notes. Bass sounds like it needs to get hit hard with compression. When the bassist starts the slapping or hard plucking he pops through but hes pretty lost most of the song. Did the band use a click track? The groove/structure seems to kind of meander in places. I guess you can thank the over playing drummer for that haha. The drums did sound pretty good aside from his performance.

Thanks Ed. The bass wasnt recorded well so I had some trouble mixing it in. Not sure about bringing the vox up, maybe a small bit. Is the bass level (funky part) ok in the last chorus? The first chorus bass was really muddy.

I used a Marshall JCM DSL50 for the guitars and ive heard they are quite harsh especially for distortion in the hi end. :(
It was tricky to get the dynamics right since there was so much hapening at the climax of the song.
Thanks for listening and commenting. Ill prob do a remix and post it soon.
:D

Do you think the drumming is too much?
It doesnt contradict the tune does it?

No - the drumming is hot - I'd kill to have a drummer like you :D well maybe not kill but maybe beat someone up. It drives the tune along nicely - without it the tune is still great but the drums bring it up a whole 'nother level .....

Lots of other posts with good comments , I agree that the bass could come up a tad. And in parts the guitar could come up (I'm a guitar player tho').

Drums sit better when they're in a mix....

Very nice ! :D

Hey, I'm listening again and one suggestion I have is:

Try to double the vox. On the verse maybe triple with a track an octave lower and another an octave higher. On the chorus just double with the second track an octave higher.

I'm thinking of a Drain STH sound for this song which would suit it really fine. I know Drain STH wasn't very popular but it was a band I used to listen to a lot.

Enter My Mind is the kinda of sound I think would fit this song perfect.

Cant do any more recording unfortunetly since I was doing it at the college and im finished. :(

Finally got a chance to finish this mix.
Ive decided to call this one finished and get it off to the pressing plant with the rest of the album.
Any more comments would be very welcome. I know the bass still isnt perfect but I did my best with what I had to work with. I had to compress the sh*t of it and also do loads of intrecate volume automation to try and level it out!

Cheers.

I guess I missed this one and I just caught it again. The drums definitely take away from the tune IMHO. Around the 2 min mark and up they are just downright sloppy sounding. The band falls apart from that point on IMHO. Its like everyone is just playing there own thing and aren't really synced or serving the song.
Vocals still sounded a little low. I did like the drum sounds. Guitars still had that hi-end fizz.

Cant really get rid of the hi end fizz as they were recorded with bad distortions. :(
The end section is kinda weird but after a few listens im sure you will get it. The drumming is a little sloppy at times.
Cheers for the comments.

Ecktronic...hi, how ya been? Phat drums is an understatement. That is some great skin beatings, and the bass is hanging tight with them. I love this progressive stuff! The vocals do not seem to project the powerhouse effects I was in anticipation of. Don't misunderstand. They are great vocals, I just feel that they could be awesome vocals if that extra push of raw emotion was put into action. The guitar takes backseat to the other players, which is okay too. I like to hear the drums and bass get a front row seat.

Another great tune!! :)

Yeah not bad, cheers. :)
Not been on as much recently, i should really comment more.
Thanks, yeah Im happy with the drums. Was going for the Deftones sound of drums but obviously couldnt match it!
This one was a tricky one to mix since there is so much going on at the end part. You know, I wanted good dynamics in the song which kinda made it hard to not make the last section alot louder than the first few choruses (heavy parts). But I got it balanced after a good few hours of carefull dynamic changes. I would have liked the vox a bit louder but I needed the guitars to be quite loud and bringing the vox up would have kiled the power of the guitars.
Cheers True. :)
