Do these exist? Any free ones?

I read somewhere where an engineer or someone had a plug or hardware that took two recorded tracks of the same source and with a dial he could dial them into phase without having to slide one of the tracks around. Was I just dreaming?

I found a bunch. They look more complicated than just miking properly.

Or just slide the tracks around to line up if there's a problem.

Yeah. But, yeah, it would be nice to press a button and have my snare line up with my overheads. Oh well, I'll guess I'll have to put an extra 27 seconds into lining them up. :D

You know, I used to line up my snare and overheads and swore by it. It worked. Now that I'm using a different OH setup, it doesn't work for me anymore. It sounds better as-is.

As far as I could tell, which isn't very far, the plug in does the same thing as sliding the track by hand. It just does it with a virtual knob basically.

Glad to hear someone else say this.
I've tried lining up my Snare & Kick tracks with my M/S overhead track...and yeah, I could line them up, and yeah, the sound changes and everything becomes more "direct"...but I always ended up going back to the tracks as they were. It just sounded better to me.

I think that AFA a tool for simply dialing in the phase between two sources...are you maybe thinking of something like this:

Radial Phazer - Class-A Phase Adjuster

and this:

Radial Phazerbank

Though of course, this is for phase alignment up front, during tracking.
