When I put The phantom button on it lights up 4 inputs at a time, I want to record drums. I would like to have all 8 inputs for drums and have only 2 phantom mics at that time....can I do this.???......manual blows........ anyone know this yet...if not this recorder is less then a Zoom R24..............

thanks
James

Don't know about the DP24 but us1800 does something similar, it'll phantom power ins 1-4 and 5-8. I'd prefer to do 1 channel at a time myself. Might be just something Tascam does.
even though still a excellent piece of equipment.

It's just a cost saver. Mackie did it in sets or eight on the 2408. Not as nice as separates but not a huge deal. Just add a step or two of care hooking up and stuff.

Hey James....

Saw your post elsewhere and it says you want 2 for Condensor Mics, & 6 Shure SM57.....Make all connections BEFORE turning on Phantom power..... .....Assign Condensors to 2 desired tracks (or stereo tracks)....For our example 1 & 2....assign all six SM-57s to channels 3-8.....

Make sure Stereo Fader and Monitors are all the way down....I turn trim knobs down as a precaution.....Since you are only going with 2 ondensers just turn on PHANTOM power A-D.....If you were using more than 4 Condenser Mics you would also light up inputs E-H

Phantom Power will not harm dynamic Mics UNLESS they are unbalanced.....(2 pins not 3)....So your SM-57s will be just fine......

This machine will do exactly what you are looking for....

Let us know how it goes.....I'm doing drums with a MIDI keyboard which that Zoom R24 doesn't support......No MIDI ? really.........

Thanks Steve,
Was not sure if the phantom power would hurt the sure 57 or not. so yeah this is great. I just put my Zoom R24 on e bay had it 6 months, nice machine, crappie workflow. This Tascam seem to be way better. The last Tascam i owened was the original 244 ( casettte tape)...haha
I will post soon and thanks again.
